NEW Program Announcement – SEEK Award
The Canadian Evaluation Society (CES) and Canadian Evaluation Society Educational
Fund (CESEF) are pleased to launch a new joint initiative – our Student
Excellence advancing Evaluation Knowledge (SEEK) Award. The Award is intended
to recognize exemplar and diverse student contributions to the advancement
of evaluation theory and/or practice.
It builds on the previous Student Paper
Contest, now inviting a broader array of exceptional evaluation-related projects
conducted by students in Canadian post-secondary institutions. The firstSEEK
intake is March 31st, 2010. Candidates must be nominated by their professor.
SEEK Award program details and related application/nomination
forms will soon be available on the CES and CESEF websites. In the meantime,
any pressing questions
about this exciting new program can be directed to programs@evaluation-education.org.

Program Intake Announcement!
CESEF is pleased to announce consistent and standing intakes
for our Educational Assistance Awards. This Award supports evaluators in
advancing their professional knowledge, skills and capacity by funding participation
in evaluation-related courses or workshops.
Application forms are due to the CESEF secretariat:
• January 15th
• September 15th
Funding decisions will be announced within four weeks following
intake deadlines.

Now registered as a Canadian Charity
The Canadian Evaluation Society Educational Fund (CESEF) is officially registered as a Canadian Charity. Did you know that you can contribute to the CESEF through the Government of Canada Workplace Charitable Campaign (GCWCC)? Simply indicate the name and number of the Fund and the amount that you would like contribute (charity number 12276 9094 RR0001). The CESEF is an independent organization that was created in 2005 to improve national capacity for evaluation through educational activities.

The Foundations of Value-for-Money Evaluation
September 26, 2008, Radisson Hotel in Ottawa, Ontario Presentor: Greg Mason, PhD, CMC Value-for-money is commonly associated with audit. As this workshop will demonstrate, program evaluation has much to contribute to assessing value for money. With Treasury Board developing value for money guidelines, evaluators and program managers will need to become familiar with these concepts. CESEF announces Educational Assistance Award winner!
CESEF recently completed the second intake of applications for our Educational Assistance Awards. This program is designed to facilitate the acquisition and exchange of program evaluation skills and knowledge by providing up to $500.00 for participation in evaluation-related training. CESEF Benefit Auction

Award winners
CESEF recently completed the inaugural intake of our Educational
Assistance Awards. Eight applications were received and four were
approved for funding, for a success rate of 50% and a total expenditure
of $2,000.00. This program is designed to facilitate the acquisition
and exchange of program evaluation skills and knowledge by providing
up to $500.00 for participation in evaluation-related training.

CES 2007 Conference Awards
CESEF and the Canadian Evaluation Society (CES) Winnipeg Conference Committee
partnered with the WINNIPEG FOUNDATION to fund the registration fees for six
individuals from non-profit organizations/agencies and for three
graduate students to the CES Annual Conference in Winnipeg (June
4 to 6, 2007). The individuals were from Volunteer Manitoba, United Way of
Winnipeg, Deer Lodge Centre, Sexuality Education Resource Centre, Manitoba
School Improvement Program, and Healthy Smile Happy Child and Students. Each
award included a one-year membership to CES.
A local evaluation company provided in-kind support
by developing, formatting and analyzing the Conference questionnaire
and the CES Manitoba Chapter will provide the follow-up web survey
for this project.
Congratulations to all.
Award Selection Members
CESEF aims to recruit experienced and knowledgeable persons to be
called upon to be award selection members for the various awards
that CESEF administer. CESEF requires both English and French award
selection members. If you can recommend such a member, please contact:
secretariat@evaluation-education.org
Thank you for the volunteer judges for the CESEF
award selection member for the 2007 Student Paper Contest and for
the CESEF award selection member on the CES Conference 2007/Winnipeg
Foundation panel.
Volunteering
Are you willing to volunteer some of your time and share your expertise
with those who are entering the profession of program evaluation?
If so, please submit your membership form (if you are not currently
a member), your qualifications and experience to secretariat@evaluation-education.org
clearly indicating for which program you would like to volunteer.
Currently, we require members to volunteer to assist with the following.
- Evaluation Mentoring Awards: International
(please see program description).
We require award selection members and mentors for students.
- Award Selection Members for the Educational
Assistance Awards. There will be ten (10) awards this year. The
key criteria will include the following: qualifications of the
applicant in evaluation; goals for the educational activity; experience
of the course or workshop leader; fit between the proposed training
and the applicant’s experience; and access to other sources
of funding. Priority will be given to those with limited access
to funding
- Award Selection Members for the One-Time Research
Awards.
Note: There can be no charitable receipt
issued for “in kind” contributions
